Climate of Spain

Even though Spain experiences varied weather all through the year, the climate of Spain can be safely slotted to be continental in nature. It is the rugged relief of Spain that leads to climatic variations all over the country.

The Cantabrian Mountains are generally considered by many to be the climatic dividing zone of Spain. The region that lies to the north of this mountain range receives plenty of rainfall and the climate is moderate in nature with mild winters and cool summers. But it is a dry climate that pervades the region south of the mountain region. The summers can get burning hot and the only relief is the infrequent but fierce thunderstorms.

The coastal areas of Spain enjoy a typical Mediterranean climate but some areas do have a tendency to be bit humid at times. Snowfalls in the mountains start as early as October and some snow cover lasts all year on the highest peaks.
